“Marskin Maja” lodge

The “Marskin Maja” hunting lodge, which was given to Finland’s Marshal Mannerheim as a gift for his 75th birthday, is a unique destination. The lodge, sauna and fishing hut built by Finnish forest troops were relocated from their original site on Lake Leksozero (“Lieksajärvi” in Finnish) in the region of Karelia to the shore of Lake Punelia near Loppi in 1945.

The “Sisu” field outpost museum, opened in 1992, is the latest addition to the museum area. The site offers a museum, sauna, banqueting hall and log-built summer house as well as programme-planning services.

The museum area is open (with café) 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues–Sun from 1 June to 15 August (closed on Midsummer Eve). Buffet lunch on Sundays from 12 noon to 3 p.m. from 1 June to 15 August. Available year-round for group private hire. The banqueting hall in the lodge seats 70 people. The Pavilion (May–September) seats 55.

The “Marski’s Traditional Meal” menu features Marshal Mannerheim’s favourite dishes and drinks. Guests will also learn about the refined table manners of Mannerheim’s era and hear a bit of living history. Other popular options are the “Mannerheim Vorschmack” menu and buffet lunch, a sauna and barbecue evening and crayfish dinner in late summer.

Guests can relax in the Marski Sauna before their meal.
